Black fraternities and sororities have played an important role for over a century, engaging Black and Brown communities since their inception, producing political leaders at the local, state and federal levels from within their very own ranks such as Ida B. Wells, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. , Shirley Chisholm, Jesse Jackon, John Lewis, Hosea Williams, Ralph Abernathy, Rep. Jim Clyburn, Rep. Hakeem Jefferies, Rep. Joyce Beatty, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep. Alma Adams and here of late, Vice President Kamala Harris, Senator Raphael Warnock, and Stacy Abrams.
